    The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, Maine is seeking a full-time Director of Sacred Music. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and passion for choral music and chant, and an ability to inspire and nurture parish musicians. 3-5 years of experience at the parish level is required. Applicants should possess strong organ skills (particularly accompaniment and improvisation) and an understanding of music as integral and in service to the liturgy. Candidates should also be capable of developing musical offerings (Lessons & Carols, Choral Concerts, etc.) that enrich the life of the community.

    Responsibilities include directing the Cathedral choral program, training/organizing Cathedral cantors, and providing organ accompaniment/direction at weekend liturgies, weddings, funerals, Holy Days, diocesan liturgies, and other events throughout the year. The position oversees liturgical music planning for the Cathedral, integration of liturgical music into parish publications, and maintenance of musical facilities and library. Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. The Director of Sacred Music is a full-time exempt position that reports to the Rector of the Cathedral. Master's degree preferred, bachelor's degree required.
