Vatican II and smart asterisk

    Has anyone else noticed that the Post-Vatican II books often have much better asterisk placement?

    One example of this would be the Introit TIBI DIXIT COR MEUM

    The fact that the new chant books have moved some of these asterisks often makes it a lot easier for the choir to come in.

    Yes. The location of the asterisks in the Gregorian Missal allows the choir to have a better sense of the modality of the chant that follows. I wonder if the change was due to the realization that compared with past ages, fewer singers have a comprehensive knowledge of the chant repertoire.
