There is no offertory antiphon, but I am interested in knowing how many use music at this point. Do you sing a motet or use organ, is there silence? Thanks in advance for your replies.
This year my choir (i.e., the one in which I sing) sang Monteverdi's Ave Maria with 3 male voices, and if I had managed to get back upstairs in time, I would have added more organ music after that. Frequently (i.e., in normal years) we sing Palestrina's Sicut Cervus, as a reinforcement of the antiphon we would have just sung on the way to the blessing of the baptismal font.
N.B. We sing the Responsory, but some of the text is used for an Antiphon, an Alleluia and a Communion. Part of the text also appears in an Epistle (sometime after Pentecost E.F.)
It is very appropriate, as it has been sung on the Vigil or Sunday for well over 1000 years.
The Organ option is seconded by Henri de Villiers, https://schola-sainte-cecile.com, Not that I can find the Programme for the Vigil. I won't be changing our practice though!
Thank you tomjaw! So helpful. I am nearing the end of my first year as the Extraordinary form choir director, CMAA and the forum have been so helpful! Thank you!
