Vibrant Director of Music and Liturgy sought for St. Jude Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. This is a new full-time position created from two previously part-time jobs. The parish is located just 15 minutes from the University of Notre Dame and 1.5 hours from downtown Chicago. St. Jude, the main parish campus, was recently renovated and features a gorgeous Baldwin concert grand piano and a 3-manual Alhborn-Galanti digital organ. Sacred Heart is the classic country church with digital organ and piano in a choir loft. Both campuses feature three-part (SAB) adult choirs with potential for further growth. St. Jude has a school with both elementary and middle school liturgical choirs. Hymnals: St. Jude - Worship IV; Sacred Heart - Gather Comp. 2. Parish uses Onelicense for occasional worship supplements.
Requirements: Director will continue to foster the “full, conscious and active participation” of parishioners in the liturgical celebrations especially through music. He or she will plan music for all parish liturgies, personally accompany 3 weekend liturgies, supervise an assistant accompanying 2 other liturgies, and lead a weekly adult choir practice at each campus. Additional responsibilities include: St. Jude School Masses, school liturgical choir practices, reconciliation services, holy days, Triduum, and parish staff meetings. Must be proficient in piano, organ, and choral conducting. Must be familiar with teachings and liturgical practices of the Catholic Church. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Organ or Sacred Music preferred.
Compensation commensurate with experience and will include benefits. Generous time-off policy: two days in a row guaranteed off weekly (generally Monday & Tuesday); six weekends of paid vacation per year.
