    it CAN be a good thing, sometimes, when used at the right occasion, but it also can be overwhelmingly abused. in general, i like to keep it to the quiet so people can pray in meditation after Mass... in fact, when I play a grand postlude, i usually dissolve it into a meditative piece that invites the prayers to CONTINUE PRAYING... however, a grand postlude can also be a wonderful expression of joy and celebration at the end of Easter Sunday. it is also good to remember to respect the day, season or type of liturgy that you are assisting... there is no hard fast rule... (as a personal aside, i still don't like the Widor piece everyone plays that we all learned in college... yawn.)

    Great article. The organ postlude's place at Mass is well supported by tradition.
