St. Rose of Lima Church, located in Murfreesboro, TN, is a growing parish with a talented and energetic staff serving approximately 2500+ families. We are seeking staff singers/section leaders for each voice part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). A music degree is not required, but desired candidates should have experience and interest in singing traditional English choral repertoire, Gregorian and/or English chant, and Renaissance polyphony. We wish to fill these positions by Advent.
Duties and responsibilities:
• Punctually attend each scheduled choir rehearsal (6:45-8:15 PM Wednesdays, as well as extra rehearsals before Christmas and Easter) and 11:00 Sunday Mass with choir from September through the feast of Corpus Christi (usually mid-to-late June)
• Lead each voice section and provide aid in vocal technique for the members in each section
• Sing at Masses for scheduled Holy Day Masses such as All Saints Day and Ash Wednesday
• Sing at 8:00 P.M. and Midnight Masses on Christmas Eve (will receive extra compensation for these services)
• Sing at Masses/Liturgies on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and 11:00 Easter morning (will receive extra compensation for these services)
• When not available, coordinate a reputable substitute
Other available opportunities—not required, but may supplement income:
• Singing at funerals, weddings, and quinceañeras
• Singing at 5:00 Saturday or 5:00 Sunday Masses as cantor when no volunteer cantors are available
• For soprano or alto (i.e. treble voices): singing as cantor at 8:30 AM Sunday Mass with children’s choir
Compensation is per Mass and per rehearsal, with higher compensation for Christmas celebrations and for Holy Week.
