Organ Scholar - Trinity Wall Street
  • Located at the head of Wall Street, Trinity Church has been part of New York City’s and our nation’s history since its charter in 1697. Today, the organization has grown to include many important areas of focus and is collectively known as Trinity Wall Street. Most importantly, we are an Episcopal parish offering daily worship services and faith formation programs at Trinity Church, St. Paul’s Chapel, and online at trinitywallstreet.org. In addition, Trinity Wall Street includes Trinity Real Estate, which manages the parish’s six million square feet of commercial real estate in lower Manhattan; Trinity Grants; John Heuss House, a twenty-four hour drop-in shelter; St. Margaret’s House, providing subsidized housing to the elderly; Trinity Preschool; Trinity Institute, an annual theological conference; and an extensive arts program presenting more than 100 concerts each year through Concerts @ One, the Trinity Choir, and the Downtown Youth Choir. Trinity’s music department is seeking an Organ Scholar to serve as accompanist for liturgies and professional and amateur choir rehearsals and performances. Provide as needed assistance in all aspects of Music Department administration. Candidate must be able to work Two weekdays and Sundays, occasionally Saturdays for special liturgies and events; regular schedule of 20 hours per week; times vary; hourly pay.

    ACCOMPANIST: Play for 1-3 weekday noon services a week. Play for services and events, as needed (e.g., weddings, funerals, etc.) Assist with accompanying the Trinity Youth Chorus for services, rehearsals and concerts Play organ voluntaries for Sunday services (1-2 times a month) Assist with 9am and 11:15 a.m. Sunday services Assist with the 5:15 p.m. Thursday Congregational Evensong as needed Assist with accompanying the Trinity Choir rehearsals as needed

    ADMINISTRATION: Assist with database/music library work, choir folders, ordering new music Assist with organizing orchestral scores for concerts Helping with Concerts, Visiting Choirs, Hospitality Coordinator of the Organ Series “Feast and Flourish” Compiling and editing Music Notes and texts/translations for Sunday bulletins

    REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of the diversity of Episcopal liturgical and musical tradition Skills in organ improvisation and organ repertoire Familiarity with Hymnal 1982, LEVAS, and Wonder, Love & Praise. Knowledge of choral conducting and chorister training programs and rehearsal technique Ability to sing and to accompany choirs Proven organizational and interpersonal skills, working collaboratively with staff and parishioners. Proficiency in MS Office and music notation software e.g. Sibelius or Finale preferred

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & CREDENTIALS: In process or completed: Bachelor of Music or graduate degree. Proficiency in keyboard/organ playing (especially service/hymn playing and choral accompaniment)
