Job Description The CCE Teaching Assistant will work with students in Kindergarten through 6th grade during Sunday morning CCE (Continuing Christian Education) classes at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Houston, TX. The position is for the 2019-2020 school year, and will begin as early as September 15, 2019. The Teaching Assistant will work closely the music office and CCE Music Teacher Tiffany Sau.
Job Responsibilities & Duties The Teaching Assistant will be responsible for the following: • Teaching the RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) classes on Sunday mornings, both with a team teacher and individually • Teaching K-6 Music Appreciation classes on Sunday mornings • Incorporating Catholic liturgy and Mass content into music lessons • Be on-call to fill in for 7-12 grade Music Appreciation classes on Sunday mornings, should the need for a substitute arise Teaching days: Every Sunday morning from September 15, 2019 to May 17, 2020, EXCEPT: • October 13 • November 17 • December 1, 22, and 29 • January 12 • March 8, 15, and 22 • April 12 • May 10 It is also helpful if the Teaching Assistant can attend and assist with Pueri Cantores, the Catholic children’s choral festival that takes place annually at the Co-Cathedral. It is scheduled for 11am to 6:30pm Saturday, March 28, 2020.
Qualifications & Skills The ideal candidate: • Is Comfortable singing with and teaching hymns/songs to young students • Is comfortable working with students of all ages • Has had experience working with young students before and/or is enrolled in music education courses at a university • Is Catholic, and has received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation o Interested applicants who do not fulfill this requirement should still apply. • Has completed catechist formation training in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd o Interested applicants who do not fulfill this requirement should still apply.
The Teaching Assistant will need to complete the Safe Haven online training before he/she can begin.
Benefits and Payment The Teaching Assistant will be paid $50/call. Compensation for Pueri Cantores will be greater.
