Director of Sacred Music St. Agnes Catholic Church
Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington, VA, a suburban parish ten minutes from Washington, DC with 2,000+ households and a preK-8 school, seeks a full-time Director of Sacred Music. Candidate must have a thorough knowledge and good sense of Catholic liturgy and strong organ, vocal, conducting and organizational skills. Must relate well to clergy, staff, parishioners and school students. Key duties as follows:
• Prepares and schedules all choirs and cantors. • Plays organ and leads choirs/cantors at two weekend Masses (10:30AM and Noon) and other liturgies, including weekly school Masses, Triduum, Christmas, Holy Days, First Communions, Confirmations, 8th Grade Graduation, Christmas Pageant and special events. • Ensures music coverage of Saturday 5:00PM Vigil Mass and 9:00AM Sunday Mass. • Meets with couples/families to coordinate programs and music, and obtain cantors for weddings and funerals. • Prepares Order of Mass notes, lector memos for special readings (Palm Sunday etc.), binders and scripts for special liturgies (Christmas, Holy Week, RCIA rites, etc.). • Prepares liturgy programs for Holy Days, Confirmation, Graduation, weddings, funerals and special events. • Recruits new choir members and cantors. • Collaborates with the Director of the St. Agnes Ensemble and school music teacher. • Assures maintenance of the organ and other musical instruments.
Knowledge of Catholic documents on liturgy required. Master’s Degree in Sacred Music and previous experience preferable. Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing whose way of life bears witness to the faith. Ability to work with Microsoft Office products, Google applications and other information technology.
