The Stabat Mater is most appropriately sung during Stations of the Cross, and Good Friday- but would including it for 5th Sunday of Lent seem appropriate... or perhaps Palm Sunday as well?
This is a lovely setting that could work perhaps during offertory, or post-communion..?
I've never had issues scheduling the Stabat during Lent in general and Passion-tide in particular. It is, after all, a reflection on the Passion as well as the role Mary plays during the same - and the consolations we should derive therefrom. I also find it useful for the feast of the Seven Dolors in September (although the Propers already contain the Sequence).
about the second watershed harmonization ... I don't know about the other parts, but as an alto, I would not like that one better. We use the Mainz harmonization, works for me :-)
