Votive Mass of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on a Saturday

    Hello!

    Is there a Gloria and a Credo for a Votive Mass of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on a Saturday (March 2nd)? Or, because it's not a Feast day, no Gloria or Credo?

    Also, is it appropriate to sing Mass VIII (de Angelis)? Or, is the Roman Missal mass setting appropriate?

    The Mass in the Ordinary Form is at noon.

    Not unless this was an occasion of particular solemn character. To put it in perspective: the actual Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary would not ordinarily include it.

    You should have the Gloria but no Credo except on the Feast day!

    For reference from the General Instruction:

    "53. the Gloria in excelsis (Glory to God in the highest) is a most ancient and venerable hymn by which the church, gathered in the holy Spirit, glorifies and entreats god the father and the Lamb. the text of this hymn may not be replaced by any other. it is intoned by the priest or, if appropriate, by a can- tor or by the choir; but it is sung either by everyone together, or by the people alternately with the choir, or by the choir alone. if not sung, it is to be recited either by everybody together or by two choirs responding one to the other.
    It is sung or said on Sundays outside advent and Lent, and also on Solemnities and feasts [ed. note: note the omission of memorials, optional memorials, ferias and votives], and at particular celebrations of a more solemn character."

    Here it is according to the 1962 Rubrics:

    Sundays: The Gloria is said on Sundays except those of Advent, Septuagesima, Lent, and Passiontide.

    Feasts: It is said on feasts of III class or higher, or equivalent (such as the Mass of a mystery or saint which is not per se III class, but which is assigned to the day either as a commemoration or by inclusion in the Martyrology, and the celebrant opts to celebrate that Mass instead of the ferial Mass).

    Ferias: It is said when the seasonal color is white (from Christmas until January 13, and from Easter until Pentecost), even if the ferias are IV class.

    Votives: It is said on votives of III class or higher (but not if vestments are violet), on IV class votive of the Angels on any day, and of the BVM on Saturday.

    Omitted: It is omitted whenever violet vestments are worn, in Requiem Masses, and in most Masses of IV class (with exceptions above).

    1. What should we understand by "by two choirs/a duobus choris"?
    if not sung, it is to be recited either by everybody together or by two choirs responding one to the other.
    Does/Can this mean "everybody" divided into two parts, or is it neccessarily select groups?

    2. The emphasis in the OF on general participation (which I applaud)* has reduced the proportion of occasions in which the Gloria is used.
    *OTOH the Gloria was, so liturgists tell us, originally reserved to the bishop.

    Simple question: is the parish at which this Votive Mass is to be celebrated, by chance, the Immaculate Heart of Mary? If it is, that should raise the votive Mass to a Mass of the highest rank, which ordinarily included a Gloria and a Credo.

    @Chris Garton-Zavesky: I don't think that raises the votive Mass to any kind of higher rank, whether in the EF or OF. It would raise the festal celebration itself but that is not in March.

    @puretonesoprano: The Gloria and/or Creed can be sung if you consider this Votive Mass to be "of a more solemn character". The official interpretation of this phrase is that it refers to Masses done "with solemnity or with a large gathering of people" (cf. Notitiae 1970: http://notitiae.ipsissima-verba.org/pdf/notitiae-1970-263-263.pdf).
