It depends on your definition of "publish". I've got stuff up on cpdl, and for sale at newmusicshelf.com, and a thing or two in dead tree land. In my experience, even things that publishers think they can make money on don't generate income for the composer. This is particularly problematic in the church music field, since performing rights organizations don't collect for liturgical use (and rightly so).
