Inspired by mmeladirectress on another thread, I have been working on this comp for the past week. It isn't finished, but here is a preview.

The first part is composed in the Lydian mode. The effect of the Augmented fourth gives it the ethereal sense of reaching heavenwards. The extended 2/4 measures give the sense of being suspended in time while the melodic sequence also reinforces a stair step of prayer rising to Our Blessed Mother as each phrase begins a major second above the previous.

Finished this composition today. Dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Ora Pro Nobis, dear Mother.

Hopefully I will be able to post a recording of a choir performing this soon.

The beginning and end are in strict Lydian mode. The center section departs into a rich harmonic, ethereal, heart rending presentation of the text.
