Our Lady of Fatima in the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle is seeking a Baritone Choral Scholar to help support and lead the men’s section of the Adult Choir. The successful candidate will be a current student in undergraduate or graduate studies toward a degree in music and will have an interest in learning more about Catholic liturgical music. They will have a well-developed technique, excellent musicianship and interpersonal skills, be punctual, will be sensitive to blending within an ensemble, and will be familiar with or interested in learning about chant notation.

The Baritone Choral Scholar must be willing to sing for Christmas Eve Mass, for Holy Week and Easter, and for additional rehearsals leading up to these. The choir generally has time off after each of these busy seasons. He may also be asked to solo cantor for other parish Masses as opportunities and his availability arise. Additional opportunities to direct or integrate projects of personal interest are also available depending on interest and skill level, and we are also willing to work with the candidate and school to arrange for appropriate course credit if available.

For an audition, candidates must present a sacred aria of their choice, a traditional hymn and a responsorial psalm which will both be provided in advance, and to demonstrate sight-singing skills.

The Baritone Choral Scholar would be required to attend the following during the choir season, which runs from September until Corpus Christi:

-Weekly Rehearsals: Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m
-Weekly Mass: Sunday morning at the 10:30 Mass with a 9:45 call
    -Christmas and Holy Week liturgies
-Occasional participation at the 8:30 Mass as available and needed
-Occasional solo cantoring as available and needed
-Extra rehearsals as scheduled, usually prior to Christmas or Holy Week

A calendar for the year will be made available in September. The stipend is $20.00/hr with an average of 4 hours a week. We would like to fill this position by early September.

Please email Pastoral Assistant for Music Kate Leen at kleen@olfatima.org to arrange an audition.
