New Baltimore, MI: Director of Sacred Music
  • Saint Mary Queen of Creation Catholic Church is a large Parish on Anchor Bay. We are seeking a full-time Director of Sacred Music.

    As the Director of Sacred Music, this person works under the direction of the pastor to continue developing a sacred music program. This includes but is not limited to playing the organ at Masses, directing the choirs, training cantors, maintaining the parish music library, increasing volunteer participation in music ministry, planning sacred music for all liturgical celebrations in the parish, and providing/arranging for music at "non-scheduled" liturgies (funerals, weddings, baptisms, etc.).

    Some particular activities and duties:

    Directly oversee/play/direct the sacred music at three weekend Masses.

    Rehearse weekly and direct the parish's adult choir and children's choir.

    Periodically organize and execute volunteer drives to increase participation in the parish's music program.

    A candidate with knowledge of Gregorian Chant would be most welcome to recruit members and form a chant schola.

    Attend monthly meetings of the Liturgy Commission; during these meetings discuss the status of the music program and any upcoming liturgical events.

    For Solemnities, employ, rehearse, and direct local instrumentalists who accompany the choir.

    Schedule all rehearsals of choirs, coordinating that schedule with the parish calendar through pastoral staff meetings and calendar planning meetings.

    Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.
