Humanities/Fine Arts Position at Wyoming Catholic College
  • As the student body of Wyoming Catholic College expands, our faculty needs are growing, as well. Although at this time there is not a need for a full-time professor of music and choirmaster, we do have a need for a professor of humanities who would be able to assist either with music (two semesters of music history, aesthetics, and basic theory, required of all juniors, as well as assisting with the Choir and Schola) or with art history (two semesters of visual art from ancient Greece to modernity, required of all seniors). The job description is pasted below. Please forward this information to anyone you know who might fit the bill. Thanks and God Bless!

    Professor of Humanities

Wyoming Catholic College seeks to hire a full-time professor of Humanities, to start teaching in Fall 2018. The applicant shall have already completed a doctorate in Literature; preferred candidates will also be competent in classical political philosophy and the Philosophia Perennis. The applicant should be equipped to teach a broad range of Humanities courses from the ancient Greeks through modern philosophy and literature. Particularly desirable would be applicants with a credential or significant experience and interest in the fine arts. In all cases, a candidate must indicate how a liberal arts education has enabled him or her to teach classic texts and to be more than passing familiar with great works outside of a specialization or disciplinary focus.

Faithful Catholics who look forward to participation in a vibrant Catholic community would be most suitable for this open position. Informing the selection of candidates will be his or her willingness to affirm the College’s mission and Philosophical Vision Statement. Understanding and agreement to this statement must be suggested in the letter of intent, which should indicate what attracts the applicant to the overall vision of the College as well as to the Humanities track (catalogue link) in particular. After reviewing the curriculum, the candidate should articulate his or her qualifications suited to teaching both the range and depth of the works included.

A semester course load of 12 hours per week is the norm (i.e., a 4-4 teaching load for the year). Although teaching is the primary responsibility of each faculty member, an energetic commitment to the wider intellectual community is encouraged in various forms from writing, to outside lectures, to conferences. An imaginative mind and open spirit are signs of personal growth, offering the college community a prospect of renewed vision and perspectives. Beyond the classroom and the conversation with one’s colleagues, life at Wyoming Catholic College is integrated on many levels beginning with academic engagement but going beyond it.

Rank and salary are commensurate with degrees earned and teaching experience; salary and benefits are competitive.

Wyoming Catholic College is interested in receiving applications for this position regardless of the applicant’s race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability. All Wyoming Catholic College Faculty agree that they will never publicly reject or defy either the authentic teaching authority of the Catholic Church nor the Pope’s authority as head of the Catholic Church.

A letter of intent with curriculum vitae should be sent to Dr. Virginia Arbery, Wyoming Catholic College, 360 Main Street Lander, WY 82520, or by email to virginia.arbery@gmail.com. Questions may also be addressed to the Academic Dean, Dr. Thaddeus Kozinski (thaddeus.kozinski@wyomingcatholiccollege.com).

Application Deadline: December 30. We will begin reviewing applicants December 15.
