OPENING: Music Teacher Holy Spirit Academy is currently seeing a part-time Music Teacher for the 2017-2018 Academic Year. It is the objective of the music program at Holy Spirit Academy to form students in the perennial beauty of the classical music tradition of Western culture, and in particular to introduce them to the patrimony of Roman Catholic sacred music. Because this sacred music tradition serves to raise the senses to worship of God (Ps. 96.1) especially in the context of the sacred liturgy, it is of special importance that students encounter this musical tradition directly by choral experience. Hence the focus of the music program is cultivating shared vocal performance and not theoretical study. The music program provides the fundamentals of vocal performance especially in a choral setting, vis-a-vie a Gregorian chant and sacred polyphony repertoire. The program will provide basic preparation in musical skills for ensemble singing: proper breathing, pleasant vocal production, blend and balance, expansion of range, good intonation, ear training, and sight-reading. The objective of the Music Teacher at Holy Spirit Academy is to implement the above-stated program, to build comradery, to develop a choir capable of performing at school events, and to enrich the student body with a common love of singing beautiful music for the Lord. Requirements for the position include previous experience directing choral music, a strong knowledge of the Catholic Church’s sacred music tradition, and preferably a bachelor's degree in Music-related studies.
