Position St. John Vianney in Northlake, IL near Chicago seeks an Organist/Music Director. The director has responsibility for selecting and playing traditional liturgical music for English parish Masses. All music is with the organ. The central goal is to provide quality organ music with at least a quality cantor (ideally the same person). It would be a bonus to build up a small adult choir and create a youth schola. Our parish has a 1908 restored Wangerin-Weickhardt Pipe Organ. This can be a full or a part-time position.
Requirements: Must be proficient on the pipe organ with experience. The cantor must have a good voice, ideally it is the organist him/her self. Most of the music is traditional hymnody, some chanting of Mass propers. Work with pastor on preparing music. Music provided for 4 weekend Masses, weekly children’s Mass, 1st Friday, 1st Saturday, Holy Days, funerals, weddings. Should be open to playing the organ for occasional Tridentine Latin Masses. Should be able to provide music in Spanish for occasional weddings and quinceaneras, and work with the Spanish volunteer choirs to provide two annual bi-lingual Masses. It is a plus if the organist knows the art of using instrumental music to create a sacred atmosphere. Contact the Pastor: frwinkelmann@gmail.com
