Chanting the Angelus
  • Hello - I'm somewhat new here, but I was wondering if anyone had a chant version of the Angelus available? Our pastor would like the schola to sing it on Sundays if we are still in the choir loft while the congregation is making their thanksgiving after Mass. Several of our members know it by heart but the rest of us are stuck...

Ossian - Our Schola has considered doing the Angelus at some point. There's a good website to look at with the Angelus in English and Latin and Spanish. For a schola you would generally sing the Ave Maria 3 times as marked and then sing a closing Marian hymn as well. We considered an opening hymn too but decided the most appropriate thing to do will be to start with the sign of the cross as soon as the bells sound the hour.

There is a nice chant version of the Angelus in the hymnal published by the SSPX.
