Advertisement for Associate Organist and Assistant Director of Music
1. St. Joseph Cathedral in Columbus, Ohio is seeking a full time Associate Organist and Assistant Director of Music. 2. Duties include accompanying the Cathedral choir (17 paid positions plus volunteers) and the Cathedral’s professional Schola, and playing liturgies, choral concerts, special events, and recitals. There would also be significant administrative duties involved as well as intermittent conducting responsibilities. A full job description will be given to finalists. 3. Applicants should be organists of extensive experience. Audition repertoire should demonstrate great facility and a mastery of disparate styles of literature and expressive character. Comfort with liturgical improvisation is required; outstanding improvisation skills are a huge bonus. Composition skills are also a plus. More details on the audition process will be given to finalists. 4. St. Joseph Cathedral is home to the 99/III Paul Fritts Grand Gallery Organ (2006), ‘Big Red’. This position works collaboratively with the Director of Music to implement a program of liturgical music in accord with Church doctrine on sacred music. Specifically, the music program at the Cathedral is based on substantial choral and organ repertoire, various types of English chant and Gregorian chant, and hymnody.
