    Question what is cannabis?
  • @Jes: It's marijuana.

Having hurt my finger in a body-surfing accident (long story), I played even worse yesterday. A splinted pinkie, it turns out, compromises the entire hand.

And it didn't help that someone who is approximately 7 ft tall adjusted the organ bench height.

Body surfing? I hope you are a young person. ;-) We older folks don't handle injuries quite as well.
  • Yikes and Ouch. I would have called in my medical leave of absence from the beach!
  • @Kathy I have been having a bout with tendinitis in my right wrist, and so having had it in a splint I lost a lot of practice time, which caused me to hit my fair share of clunkers this weekend. Naturally the pedal solo at the beginning of the Buxtehude Prelude, Fugue, and Chaccone was no problem, but I botched everything in the manuals.

And it didn't help that right before the first Mass began I discovered my presets had gotten messed up, so I spent the first half of Mass trying to hand-change everything (which I'm not used to doing on this organ) and then resetting all my pistons during the homily.

I lift weights, so something hurts all the time. Two weeks ago it was bicep tendinitis from too heavy bicep curls. A few weeks before there was shoulder and wrist pain. Then the bout with elbow pain. Still, better than not doing anything, I guess. It hasn't affected my playing because I can generally compensate for injuries.

What has really gotten to me, however, has been the wildfires that have raged around us for weeks. There is smoke, ash, haze and all sorts of junk in the air with no end in sight to the drought contributing to the fires. Trying to get my irritated eyes to stay in focus has been an ordeal. I am having to memorize enough to get by for the times the sheet music blurs. Our ancient HVAC system filters out nothing, or so it seems. Music is not for the wimpy since you have to show up and do the best you can regardless.
