    The Director of Sacred Music at St Thomas Aquinas serves the parish as principal musical leader according to the highest professional standard, and works in close collaboration with the pastor and parish leadership, in an engaging environment that furthers the mission of Jesus and His Church. This position is full time, salaried with full benefits according to AGO and NPM standards.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
     Active practicing Catholic
     Organ and piano proficiency
     Ability to conduct orchestras and smaller instrumental ensembles
     Knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic Church’s liturgical tradition and practice
     A strong understanding of the dynamics of Sacred Music and worship with respect to evangelization
     Ability to lead and sustain a program of vibrant singing which encourages congregational participation
     Knowledge of available repertoire of liturgical music, including traditional hymns, Gregorian chant, polyphony and contemporary praise and worship
     Effective supervisory, communication and interpersonal skills

    Essential Functions:
     Oversee and organize music for regular parish liturgical celebrations including, but not limited to: all weekend Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, Confirmation & First Holy Communion, Holy Week, parish retreats, weddings and funerals
     Direct the various adult and children’s choirs, including weekly rehearsals for each
     Play for weekend Masses as scheduled with the Associate Organist
     Supervise and maintain quality program for Youth Ministry Music Ensemble
     Recruit, train and schedule weekly cantors
     Support and advise the school music program teacher
     Collaborate with the pastor and leadership team in liturgical planning
     Obtain suitable alternate musicians when director is unavailable
     Maintain the instruments belonging to the parish
     Create worship aids for major feasts, such as Christmas and Easter
     Maintain and manage the music budget
