I'd be most grateful for any suggestions members of the forum have for devotional music for St. Joseph.
Specifically, I'm looking for things not in Latin, and I'd love TTB or TTBB recommendations, though certainly most anything can be arranged for voicing requirements. I'd be especially indebted for suggestions of pieces that are not hymns in English, though I'd always appreciate hearing about your favorite hymns, too. Any repertoire for processions, litanies, refrains with verses, etc. would also be most welcome!
Thanks, all. To answer your question, EG, I was hoping to broaden the horizon a bit...pieces in languages besides Latin and English (e.g., Spanish, Italian, etc.), through-composed pieces rather than strophic, pieces that work well in processions, etc.
This song auf Deutsch may be newly composed, but the family singing it is sweet: they perform concerts of their original songs to raise money for the missions in Central Asia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcvG9mVCpfk
It's precisely what Richard said—I already have a lot of pieces in English and Latin, and a lot of strophic music, and am looking for some other things to add to what I already have.
Chris, if you ever get to come to a CMAA colloquium, you'll have an opportunity to meet Professor Donelson or hear her make a presentation. She's one of the directors of the association and serves as the managing editor of Sacred Music.
Yes, thanks, Mark! This is the type of thing I'm looking for at this point in my search, and what I had in mind when I started this thread. (I guess I should have cited this as an example from the beginning!) There are a couple of gems mentioned in the Russell book mentioned on the thread you cite. I'm wondering if there are other manuscripts out there like these, of which I'm not yet aware.
Have been..... simply years ago, and had the chance to hear Kurt Poterack and Cal Shenk (who died shortly afterwards, may he rest in peace.) Perhaps will be able to attend a future one.
While in English, it is stunningly beautiful: St. Joseph Litany by Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles. You can purchase here for SSAA (and then rearrange for TTBB): http://benedictinesofmary.org/content/sheet-music.
