The wedding of Cana
  • Dear musiclovers, I am in need of your help. Each year we have, at the beginning of the Rosary-month October, a musical contemplation. This year it is based upon the 5 (new) mysteries of the Light. The second mystery is The wedding of Cana. I can't find any suggestions on which music is appropriate. Can anyone give suggestions ?

Here are the propers for the Mass of the traditional Second Sunday after Epiphany

You might search for settings of the Communion antiphon:

Dicit Dóminus: Impléte hýdrias aqua, et ferte architriclíno.
Cum gustásset architriclínus aquam vinum factam, dicit sponso:
    Servásti bonum vinum usque adhuc.
Hoc signum fecit Jesus primum coram discípulis suis.

Pachelbel's Canon. Surely that's what was playing at the wedding.

  • Johnmann,

Sarcasm may go over the head of our international interlocutor, as may the discussion to which you are referring.

Also, there are numerous settings of the text "Tribus miraculis," back when Epiphany celebrated three manifestations of the Lord as a single feast:
    — Appearance of the Magi
    — Jesus' Baptism in the Jordan
    — The wedding at Cana

CPDL has scores for at least six such settings.

Hassler's setting a6 is particularly wonderful.
