This is getting ridiculous. Interview got rescheduled, need some opinions
  • Last week I was supposed to go for that second interview. The pastor cancelled and rescheduled at the last minute, got an email at like 10:30pm the night before. Said too many people on the worship committee couldn't be there. They chose a director but didn't say who it is. A colleague who had applied for the director position but didn't win got an email from them tonight asking if he wanted to interview this week for the accompanist position, to which he said no.
This whole thing has been dragging on and on SINCE MAY. I've had way too much time to think about this and honestly guys I'm ready to bail. I won't because I'm professional and that sends a bad message. I will go for the second interview but I really feel like I shouldn't take the job if it's offered. Yes I know my current position doesn't pay well and there are concerns about the future of the church. But would I be leaving just for money and then walking into what appears to be a highly disorganized and chaotic situation?? I don't know guys...In my heart I feel like this is a bad move and I would instantly regret leaving where I am now.

Stay the course-- unless you're sure you wouldn't take the job.

    For what it's worth—
    A) It's always a good thing to keep your options open.
    B) Every audition/interview is an opportunity to increase the number of people who think positively of your ability/temperament/leadership skills etc... as a church musician, which is always a good thing, whether for whatever reason you end up with the position or not.
    c) There is always a time for a principled decision in accepting/rejecting a position (but see A!)

Just by the way, it might be best not to have such private concerns aired electronically.

  • I've given no names and I do not use mine here. Those who do know it through social media I highly doubt are leisured enough in their time to find out where I am interviewing and are not in any way invested in finding out. If they are, they need a life. Thanks for your concerns...
