The soprano section leader in my choir is presenting a concert of sacred music the week after Easter. We have a cellist at our disposal and I am looking to include him on a piece or two. Programmed pieces include Handel's "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth", Bach's "Zerfliese mein Herze", Faure's "Pie Jesu", Mendelssohn's "Hear Ye, Israel", Mozart's "Laudate Dominum" and some spirituals. Anyone know if there are any arrangements of these with cello; or any other sacred music written for organ/piano and soprano and cello? Thanks for any leads!
A few years back the local symphony conductor asked me to arrange the Schubert AM for soprano (m' better half), strings, oboe and harpsichord for a Christmas concert. It wasn't a huge stretch to compose a descant overlaying the soprano melody for the oboe. I'm sure an enterprising composer/arranger could fashion something similar fairly rapidly and easily.
For Soprano & Cello duo alone (no keyboard accompaniment), here is my Ave Maria a 2. The "Baryton" part may be sung by a Baritone or played on a Baryton (which is an early form of the Cello). Both PDF score and MP3 sound file attached.
Today, I just finished an arrangement of the Agnus Dei (English) from my Ascension Mass, arranged for Soprano and Cello, in memory of my mother who was an accomplished cellist and my recently deceased Aunt Margaret who was an accomplished Soprano.
The score is attached together with a sound file. While the accompaniment can be played on any keyboard, it's best with organ (in my opinion).
I hope someone might find it worth performing and, if it is performed, I hope it is recorded.
NB. Although this is in English, it is no problem to recast it in Latin.
I've made a few revisions of my soprano-cello duet setting of "Agnus Dei" and am enclosing the revised version (I'll not change the previous, since people might prefer it).
