    I received this job description from a colleague and friend who speaks highly of the parish and its Pastor. He also indicated that a good bit of compensation comes from weddings and funerals as it's a large parish.

    DIRECTOR OF MUSIC & ORGANIST

    Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church is seeking applications for the position of Director of Music & Organist. St. Peter Parish (1851) is the third oldest parish in the Diocese of Bridgeport. Our neo-Gothic church built in 1875 is a landmark in Danbury, and its organ, a three manual Peragallo installed in 1995, is the finest instrument in the area. This full-time position requires an enthusiastic individual with excellent musicianship who possesses a minimum of a BA (Masters preferred), is committed to Catholic liturgy and worship, has competence in chant and the classical sacred repertoire, has excellent command of the organ repertoire, is skilled in vocal conducting and accompanying and who is a collegial and flexible team player comfortable working with the clergy and staff of the parish and school. Experience or interest in working with children and training their voices is desirable. The salary is $40,000 with diocesan benefit package.
    The position of Director of Music & Organist includes the following responsibilities:

    Organist. The Director of Music & Organist plays for four weekend Masses, two Masses on Holy Days of Obligation, all Triduum liturgies, two Marian devotions, monthly school Masses and School Holy Day Masses, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and St. Peter School Graduation exercises. The Organist has the right of first refusal for all weddings and funerals for additional compensation.

    Choir. The Director of Music & Organist will train, accompany, and conduct a capable, talented and devoted choir and recruit new members as necessary. The Director of Music and Organist will keep the choir library in good order, assisted by volunteers, if advisable. The Director of Music & Organist will be responsible for purchasing new music as necessary. The Director of Music & Organist will work with and occasionally collaborate with the Children’s Choir. The Director of Music & Organist will prepare the choir for concerts.

    Cantors/Section Leaders. The Director of Music & Organist will recruit, train and supervise four paid section leaders in consultation with the Pastor.

    Instruments: The Director of Music & Organist is responsible for the care and maintenance of all parish musical instruments. The Director of Music & Organist has the right to use the parish instruments for teaching as the parish schedule allows.

    Planning: The Director of Music & Organist will choose all music for all liturgies for which there is music as the Pastor directs. The Director of Music & Organist will be responsible for making schedules of all music and submit them in a timely manner to the Parish office and choir.

    The job will be available beginning June 15, 2016.
