Congregation in the Choir Loft
  • Charles,

I know you're familiar with the expression "one man's junk is another man's treasure". While it's true that we live (you and I) in the People's Republic of California and others hereabouts live in other similarly Catholic-hostile environments, it must also be recognized that hierarchy is a natural part of both secular life and ecclesial life. In fact, there's a regulation somewhere that says that ecclesiastical order should be evidently preserved in the distribution of Holy Communion -- and this in the Ordo of Paul VI.

Beauty is part of what appeals to those of us who see tremendous value (not to mention peace of heart and soul) in a properly celebrated Solemn High Mass in the Vetus Ordo. God is still King; He created Holy Order and Holy Orders; cooperating with God and His Natural Order is good for our souls.

So, even though Ben means it partly as a joke, there is (as there often is) an undercurrent of truth in it.

I don't draw people away from the Ordo of Paul VI but rather toward the timeless Mass of the Ages.
