So, the Dominicans are turning 800 this year. Our local Dominicans wish to celebrate by introducing vespers and compline as part of a semi regular schedule at the Newman Center. which books do I need to consult in order to put together booklets for these services?
In the Midwest Province in the Dominicans (Province of St. Albert the Great), the friars use a quasi-interim modern Dominican breviary called Dominican Prayer. It is the standard ICEL translation with Dominican propers interspersed when needed. The presider's edition is from 1997 but there was an updated edition in 2013. The psalms used are the New Grail Psalms and scripture texts are from the NRSV. This would include Lauds and Vespers.
The modern celebration of Compline in the Dominican Order follows the ICEL translation; however, there is a different form of the penitential rite. At the end, the Dominican setting of the Salve, Regina is chanted followed by O Lumen Ecclesiæ, the Magnificat antiphon from the Feast of St. Dominic.
