My opinion: Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is a great song that, alas, became an anthem for beauty-queen (and prince) types who mistake mawkish treacle for emotion.
Cohen himself did have an unfortunate attraction to over-produced music, but I doubt that he'd ever be caught in that pose. Cohen did not, at least, make his singing all about himself.
