Holy Family Roman Catholic parish in Mitchell, South Dakota, a parish of 1100 families, seeks a full time director of music and organist to implement a liturgical music program consistent with the Church's teachings on music. The ideal candidate will possess the following: experience in organ performance, knowledge of Gregorian chant as well as simpler forms of English chant (e.g. Simple English Propers of Adam Bartlett, chants of Columba Kelly and Samuel Weber), choral conducting skills, knowledge of choral literature, interpersonal skills, organizational/administrative skills, and knowledge of Church documents on music.
The choral program at Holy Family is in need of development. To that end, there is a possibility of paid cantors/choristers which would be auditioned and hired by the successful candidate. Also, there is a desire to replace the existing electronic organ. Generally speaking, the entire music program needs further development, established on the musical principles of the Roman Catholic Church.
Four Masses per weekend, plus Holy Days (obligatory and otherwise), weddings, funerals. Bachelor's degree in organ performance or sacred music preferred. Salary/benefits consistent with AGO guidelines.
This is a wonderful, talented and generous community! This position would be ideal for a first time music director, who wants to learn and desires to teach. I look forward to hearing from you! St. Cecelia, patron of Church Musicians, Pray for Us!
