Hildegard's Columba Aspexit in Square Notes?
  • Hey Folks-- A few years ago Fr Michael Earthman did a square notation version of St Hildegard's "Columba aspexit"... Does anyone have the PDF of that? I had it but I can't find it. Also, in general, I would love to have any of her work in square notes that anyone has. Attached are three files that I've found, two of her antiphons set by Fr Earthman and another that is of Mass ordinaries set in a Hildegardian style.

Hildegard's melodies are available in square notation complete in a publication by the nuns of her abbey. The notation is quite attractive (not exactly quite as square as the Solesmes notation) with just slightly more curvature as in handwritten square notation. It was published in Salzburg, 1969 with a second edition in 1992. A new edition of about 2009 is listed on Amazon, but they do not tell what kind of notation the edition uses.

  • Thank you, Prof. Mahrt! I would love to get that from Amazon.
  • I have these two, and one's a repeat (but with English rub...).

MACW, that book doesn't seem to contain melodies.
  • Hi. So happy to have found this site and some of these scores are beautiful. I was wondering if there was a more complete score of O Virga ac Diadema? Does anyone know?
