Ringing of bells in France to honor Middle East Christian martyrs

Rorate Caeli reports that Bishops Dominique Rey and Marc Aillet (whose book, The Old Mass and the New, is highly recommended!) have called for the ringing of church bells today in support of the persecuted Chrisitans in the Middle East. So far 66 dioceses in France and 24 dioceses in other countries have joined the appeal.

I'm very shaken after reading the latest horrific news about the kidnapping and execution of priests by ISIS http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2015/08/isis-kidnaps-priest-kills-him-cuts-him-into-pieces-packs-him-in-box-and-sends-him-back-home/

Somehow, I just can't understand why so much attention and effort is being expended on papal trips and synods when the escalating slaughter of Christians in the Middle East is seemingly relegated to the back burner. The way I see things, and perhaps I'm wrong, but if I were in charge (and thank God I'm not) I'd cancel every event on the calendar and have everyone on their knees in sackcloth and ashes praying the rosary for the end of this outrage.

    Amen, Amen, Amen.

Martyrdom like we have never seen before is just beyond the next turn.

Prayer is good, but I fear we have gone from the day of the church militant to the church emasculated. In neither the religious nor secular sphere do we have any leaders worthy of their offices. I hope that changes in the near future. A Julius II would come in handy at the moment or at least, someone willing to engage the enemy and defeat him.

I can't get my head around the fact that next month American Catholic and Vatican bigwigs will be partying in Cuba and Philadelphia, spending millions of dollars and oceans of ink covering the festivities while Christians and priests and bishops are being mowed down by ISIS, and Christian families are being slaughtered or sold as sex slaves.

It doesn't compute, and I sure hope I'm wrong but the determination to keep celebrating ourselves in the face of mayhem and disaster strkes me as being almost apocalyptic: Manducemus et bibamus cras enim moriemur. (I Cor15:32)

Julie, I have always heard that when God really wants to punish someone, he first takes away their mind. It's all crazy beyond belief!
