On Trinity Sunday, we are celebrating the ordination anniversaries of three priests at our parish (50, 25, and 10). The hymns, psalmody, and propers will be for Trinity; but I am looking for suggestions for my choir to sing something more specifically directed toward the anniversary celebrations, perhaps during offertory or post-communion. Any suggestions on specific pieces, or texts that I should be looking for?
You could find a good setting of Tu es Sacerdos in Aeternum.
Given the connection between Our Lady and the priesthood, a good strong setting of the Magnificat would be in order.
A priest of my acquaintance suggested The Old Grey Mule, she ain't what she used to be for a requiem, and since he made the suggestion in jest, so will I.
Byrd's Sacerdotes Domini is worthy of consideration. It sort of (that is to say, 'somewhat obliquely') ties in with the Trinity, too. And, it is about the very singular thing that sets priesthood apart.
