    Full-Time Position. Salary range: $37,000-$44,000 annually. Full Benefits. Negotiable. Candidates with superlative qualifications maybe able to be paid over $44,000.

    Location: St. John University Parish (Student Parish for West Virginia University/Mountaineer Catholic) Morgantown, West Virginia

    Job Information:

    This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the music program as it relates to the celebration of parish liturgies and campus ministry for a Roman Catholic University Parish in the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling/Charleston. St. John University Parish is responsible for the evangelization and formation of the college students and families involved with West Virginia University.

    REPORTING FUNCTION

    Reports directly to pastor or his designate.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Duties may include any or all of the following:

    -Responsible for all music associated with worship in the parish and campus ministry.
    -Direct the parish worship program, including the planning of liturgical seasons, sacramental celebrations and yearly calendar.
    -Direct the campus ministry Mountaineer Catholic night's music needs.
    -Communicate with families or Pastor to develop music and order of liturgy arrangements for funerals and weddings.
    -Keep abreast of developments in sacramental theology, the requirements of Canon Law, Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, liturgical practices nationally and diocesan policies and guidelines.
    -Schedule, rehearse and evaluate parish choir(s) and liturgical instrumentalists.
    -Invite, motivate, and train parish musicians, cantors, song leaders and coordinate with other qualified musicians when necessary.
    -Improve the competence of music ministers by defining or refining standards and creating programs for meeting them.
    -Work with musicians of other ecclesial communities (CRU, Young Life, etc.) on occasion to foster a spirit of ecumenism.
    -Encourage liturgical and spiritual formation of cantors and musicians.
    -Remain current on developments in the field of liturgical music in general and Roman Catholic liturgical music in particular.
    -Maintain a music library and maintain parish hymnals and music materials.
    -Oversee and properly maintain parish instruments and sound system.
    -Ensure and obtain all necessary copyright reprint licenses.
    -Prepare, recommend and manage worship and music budget in collaboration with the pastor and business manager.
    -Attend parish staff and related committee meetings as scheduled.
    -Develop and expand the parish knowledge and practice of sacred music in conformance with the mandates of the governing Roman documents, especially those of Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, the U.S.Conference of Catholic Bishops. Develop and define the role of the Psalmist in liturgy.
    -Expand the role of youth in music ministry by offering greater opportunities for their involvement in various areas of the liturgy.
    -Availability and planning of music needs for Mountaineer Catholic student retreats. Weekend availability a must.
    -Ability to lead worship for college prayer group. Knowledge and ability to lead with the most current praise and worship music.
    - Basic knowledge of gregorian chant.

    POSITION ANALYSIS

    This position requires a spiritually mature and faithful Catholic who loves the Church and Her teachings, is professional, responsible, committed, self-motivated individual with excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, administrative, managerial and interpersonal skills. Must be a Catholic in good standing and have a working knowledge of Church doctrine, Catholic sacramental theology, current liturgical norms and practices of the Church and Diocese. Must be proficient in the following areas: GUITAR, PIANO, VOICE, BASIC CHORAL DIRECTION. A major part of this position is the ability to work, direct, and inspire college students.
    The person should be an active and visible member of the parish community. An understanding of parish structure and ministry is helpful.

    EDUCATIONAL/WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    Preference for a Bachelors Degree in Liturgy, Theology, Music or Church Music. 2-5 years experience in campus ministry preferred.
