Announcing Summer Chant Intensive 2015
  • Registrations are now being accepted to attend the Summer Chant Intensive! Wilko Brouwers will be the instructor for men and women this year at Duquesne University. Dr. Ann Labounsky will also give breakouts on organ improvisation with chant at this year's course.

Just a little information about Duquesne:

Duquesne University has been a wonderful partner with us since 2010. They offer course credit options for students for both our summer courses each year. Summer Chant Intensive has been held at Duquesne every summer since the relationship with Duquesne was forged.

    Updates:

    * The renovations on the Mary Pappert School of Music are complete (the facilities are very nice). There is even a nice sitting area with vending machines available.
    * A new pipe organ is being installed at the university chapel. It is to be dedicated this summer.
    * The new catering company for the university got good reviews from our Chant Intensive attendees last year
    * The meal plan has been made optional for our attendees for both CMAA events this summer to allow more choice.
    * The dorms will have free wi-fi available in the rooms. We will provide login information to attendees.
    * The conference hotel, the Hilton Garden Inn, is not within easy walking distance of the university. However, the hotel does offer free shuttle service on a first-come, first-served basis. There are many restaurants in easy walking distance of the hotel, which wasn't the case when we stayed at the Marriott in previous years. There is also a very easy city transit bus route that runs directly between Duquesne and the hotel.

    A few tips:

The dormitories are, well... dormitories. Each suite of two rooms shares a bath in between. When students stay there for an entire semester, they generally bring their own bath mats and towels and fluffy comforters. The linens provided by the university, while being functional, may not meet your normal at-home standard. Bring along extra items to make your stay more comfortable. If you like to read before bedtime, you may want to bring a small book light with you.
