Palestrina's Compline music

    I'm trying to make sense out of a fauxbourdon by Palestrina, No. 3 in Haberl's vol. XXXII. It's one of several items for Compline and is given in between the hymn Te lucis ante terminum and a Nunc with its antiphon Salva nos (these last two are on CPDL)

    The responsorium breve is laid out "In manus tuas Domine commendo spiritum meum" followed by the rubric V. "Redemisti nos" "Gloria Patri" in cantu gregoriano and then V. Custodi nos Domine in cantu greg. with Falsobordone for the words "Sub umbra alarum tuarum protege nos." Gregobase has in manus tuas but the second part is missing, as it is also in Steven van Roode's Friday Compline booklet. Am I missing something the would be obvious to an old hand?

    Seems like its just another verse, which is absent from the Gregobase example or SVR's booklet? The first text of it sung to a gregorian tone and the response being that falsobordone.

    But it doesn't seem to be in a related tone. In the 1977 BCP the Lesson may be followed by a hymn, and then comes
    "Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit; for you have redeemed me, O Lord, O God of truth. Keep us, O Lord, as the appel of your eye; Hide us under the shadow of your wings."

    In Lutheran Night Prayer one has Psalmody; Lesson; Collect; Responsory ("Into your hands.."); Hymn; then:
    "Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry. keep me as the appel of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings. In righteousness I shall see you; when I awake, your presence will give me joy."

    EDIT: I was mistaken, the video looked similar to Tridentine compline, but is not. I'll search for the right video.

    Thanks again, and it's been within arm's reach the whole time in the Liber! Gregobase must still be a work in progress...

    Gregobase has all the Mass propers from the Graduale, but not yet all the office materials from the LU. Participation in extending the collection is invited.
