Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy (OLSW) seeks to fill a position in music for the 2015-2016 academic year. The position will remain open until filled, and is subject to budgetary approval. Potential candidates are encouraged to apply immediately.
All candidates must have completed a master’s degree in music, or its equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with a doctorate in music, or ABD. Candidates must be able to teach a range of academic music courses, including music theory and music history. All instructors at OLSW are expected to affirm in writing their fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and to teach in full accord with it. As well, candidates for this position are expected to be familiar with the Church’s teachings and regulations regarding liturgical music and the prudent application thereof.
Applications will be strengthened by the presence of some or all of the following: A record of successful direction of choirs An understanding of and the ability to articulate the synergy between ecclesiastical music and the rest of the OLSW program Experience teaching at the university level Experience in academic administration to further develop the ecclesiastical music program, including such issues as articulation agreements with other institutions The capacity to effectively promote the music program throughout North America so that students might be attracted to, attend, and remain at OLSW The ability to discharge the other duties normally expected of a faculty member, such as student advising The ability to teach and experience of teaching: Gregorian chant, polyphony, organ, hymnody, piano, voice, other instruments, the music courses presently listed in the Academic Calendar, and such other courses as would be necessary for the development of a robust ecclesiastical music program Familiarity with the Ordinary and Extraordinary forms of the Roman Rite and with at least some forms of the Eastern Rite Music at the parochial level Publications, both popular and scholarly
Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy offers higher education in the Catholic tradition of the liberal arts. The Academy is presently pursuing degree-granting status in the Province of Ontario.
Salary is commensurate with experience, within the context of OLSW’s nature as a non-profit apostolate. In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
