SUMMARY: Part-time Organist and Choir Director to work in a small, friendly suburban church, part of a two-church parish.
LOCATION: St. Joseph Church, Lincoln, MA (part of St. Julia Parish, Weston/Lincoln, MA)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Plan, prepare and perform organ music and direct choir for Sunday Mass at 10:30 a.m. (organ/choir/cantor). * Weekly choir rehearsal (choir season is approx. Labor Day - Corpus Christi). * On major Sunday feasts, plan, prepare and perform organ music for 7:30 a.m. Mass (organ/cantor). * (This position does not include responsibilities for the Paschal Triduum, since those services are held at the parish's other church.) * Coordinate with the Music Director for the other church as requested by pastor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Experience as organist and choir director * Broad training, familiarity, and experience with Catholic liturgy and music * Knowledge and proficiency in varied styles of repertoire, including traditional hymnody, choral repertoire, and contemporary sacred music * Tested ability to collaborate with pastor and staff (including music director at the other church), to organize programming and to lead volunteers and congregation with tact and respect * Collaborative spirit within the overall parish music program * Leadership ability * Able to work with heterogeneous choir
CURRENT MUSIC PROGRAM (example):
A *typical* Sunday Mass includes:
* Hymns from WLP missalette and/or Worship III * Mass ordinary parts by Vermulst, Proulx, Andrews, etc. Missal chants in Advent & Lent. * Choir (1S, 2A, 4T, 3B) sings an anthem at communion: e.g., easy 2- or 3-part works published by Paraclete, Concordia, etc.; or an SATB hymn. * Responsorial psalm from WLP missalette * Seasonal Alleluia settings by Marier * A repertoire of four simple communion songs has been in use for a year or so: by Marier, Joncas, Farrell.
