My Soul Rejoices in My God
  • Can anyone recommend a nice setting of Isaiah 61/Luke 1 "My Soul Rejoices in My God", the responsorial psalm/canticle for the Third Sunday of Advent?
  • There's the setting to the tune WILD MOUNTAIN AIRE. Otherwise any choral setting of the Magnificat will fit the text. IMSLP should have a good selection to start with.
  • If you're describing David Haas's "Holy Is Your Name) set to the tune WILD MOUNTAIN THYME, is this an acceptable replacement for the responsorial psalm? Is this permitted because it's actually a canticle and not a psalm?

Several settings are available at the Chabanel Psalms site:

  • I couldn't find one, and went for the Lumen ChrstI Gradual To You O Lord, I Lift My Soul psalm as a seasonal resp. ps.
  • Here is a setting using the Canadian lectionary text.

From 1999-2003 or so, I was writing simple choral settings each week for the complete 3-yr Psalter (with the exception of summer Sundays, when my choirs were off duty). Here's the one for the Sunday in question.
