I just have a question about the hymn 'Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came' and whether it's appropriate to sing it during Advent? I understand it's an Advent hymn but there is a very pronounced part where 'Gloria' is sung. The 'Gloria - Glory to God' is not sung during Advent. Is the 'Gloria' in the hymn 'Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came' too joyous for the season? Or it is alright for it to be sung?
The Gloria in excelsis is not sung --true-- but the word Gloria is still very much used. The Gloria Patri is still (able to be) added to the psalm at the introit, for example. (Even in Lent it is said, until Holy Week.)
