One priest was apparently killed and another in critical condition at the Mater Misericordiae Mission in Phoenix, an FSSP mission. It appears it was a burglary. May the departed priest rest in the peace of Christ, and our deepest prayers for a quick recovery for the other priest. :(
There will be a holy hour this evening from 7-8pm at the Cathedral of SS Simon and Jude in Phoenix for these priests. If you are able to join us, please do. If not, please take a moment to pray for the repose of Fr. Walker's soul and for Fr. Terra's recovery.
We will be offering prayers for all involved during choir rehearsal tonight, and send sympathy to our nearby Phoenix Catholics.
Fr. Walker came out to San Diego for a visit, and he struck me then as particularly gentle, innocent and humble. He was one of those priests who seemed to radiate joy and wonder and love of The Lord.
We can only trust that God will bring some good out of such a senseless tragedy.
Mary, Ann, I'm assuming you will have a Requiem High Mass at St. Anne's for Fr. Walker? My thoughts and prayers are with you. That will be tough to get through, but beautiful as well. We sang an EF Requiem Mass for my father-in-law's funeral since he had specially requested it, and somehow we got through it with the greatest sense of peace and calm and even a subdued kind of joy.
The In Paradisum and the chants for the Burial Service . . . there are no words.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Littleton CO will be having a sung high Requiem mass (EF form) for Fr. Walker on Monday June 16th at 8:30am (call time 7:30 in the parish hall). I invite all singers that connect with the Chant Café to come and sing with us. Besides the Gregorian Requiem I'm planning the Victoria - Vere Languores Nostros as a communion or offertory hymn and either the Josquin - Ave Verum Corpus Christi or Victoria - O Vos Omnes as well.
Requiescat in pace. May Our Lord have mercy on his soul and may God heal Fr. Terra.

I wanted to express my gratitude to all who were able to sing for Fr. Walker's Requiem mass at OLMC this morning. We were able to sing the Vere Languores Nostros and the Sheppard In Manus Tuas for the communion hymns as well as the entire Gregorian Requiem with full burial prayers (known as the absolution in the 1962 rite). Again, my most gracious thanks.
