I have come across this chap's work on IMSLP in the Libre Organi book. He was head of music at the Doge's Chapel in St Mark's Basilica in the 18th century. At St Mark's, he set about reforming the choir. He persuaded the Basilica authorities, the Procurators, to be more flexible in payments to singers, allowing him to attract performers with first-rate voices. I have tried some of his pieces on the pipe organ and they sound beautiful to me. He particularly likes to solo out the Flauto Traverso, or hold dialogue between it and the 'ripieni' in his sonatas. Well worth a try, in my opinion.
I knew nothing about Galuppi except his role as the subject of a Robert Browning poem half-remembered from my childhood. Thanks for the tip-off regarding his organ output.
chonak. I clicked post comment, and nothing happened, except for the edit box to return to empty. So, after a few moments, I repeated the attempt at what I thought was a failure of the system, with the same result. And again. And again, which finally "accepted" my post. This took place over several minutes before I finally say the posted message. Never did I get a message that the "system" was treating my post(s) as spam.
I'm sorry ... not sure what to do in such circumstances in which, after submitting a post and seeing the edit box empty but nothing appears to have been posted.
My apologies. I am not a spammer and have enough of that to deal with at CPDL. Please delete the extraneous posts.
