Poulenc "Hodie Christus"
  • Anyone have any luck teaching this? Any advice?

The group in question will have 3 rehearsals with it, two on a part, (mostly) professional-level, music reading musicians.

What should I be aware of going in?

Counting is fun on that piece, as with all the Poulenc Christmas motets. Be sure and make note that an eighth is an eighth. Also, pay attention to the tenor tessitura in the solo passage. Makes for real fun....

We just sang it in school, an ensemble of about 16 college voice students. We visited it in way more than three rehearsals. Tuning the chords on the eighth-note passages is a job.
