Greetings from Monterrey! Here's information for the Nacional Liturgical Music Congress of the Mexican Bishop's Conference, to be held February 24-28, 2014 in Monterrey, Mexico. I have been attending this congress for the last two years and I highly recommend it for anyone involved in Hispanic music ministry. It's a fantastic cultural immersion experience and you'll meet some of the best liturgical musicians and composers from all over Mexico. Hopefully Msgr. Valentino Miserachs Grau will also join us as he has been for several years now.

Mexican bishops will be giving the keynote conferences on the liturgy of Holy Week. Workshops include Gregorian chant, choir direction, organ, psalmody, and sheet music editing. We have laudes together in the morning and solemn mass and a concert in the evening. On the last day, Friday, there is an organized sight-seeing tour which ends at 2:00pm.

The cost of attending the conference (includes food, lodging, materials and inner city transportation) is the equivalent of $280 dollars for a shared room and $415 dollars for a single room. Lodging is in the beautiful Grand Hotel Ancira, a cultural and historical monument in the center of downtown Monterrey.The only other major expense is your plane ticket and your transportation to the hotel.

Basic conversational Spanish is a must and there are no official translators for the conferences.

LA DIMENSIÓN DE MÚSICA LITÚRGICA DE LA COMISIÓN EPISCOPAL PARA LA PASTORAL LITÚRGICA

CONVOCA

A las Comisiones Provinciales y Diocesanas de Música Sacra, Directores y Profesores de Escuelas de Música Sacra, Profesores de Música Litúrgica en los Seminarios, Sacerdotes, Religiosos, Religiosas, Seminaristas y Ministros de Música Litúrgica al XXXVI CONGRESO NACIONAL DE MÚSICA LITÚRGICA, del 24 al 28 de febrero de 2014, teniendo como SEDE la Arquidiócesis de Monterrey.

El contenido temático de nuestros Congresos seguirá desarrollándose en el contexto de los 50 años de la Constitución “Sacrosanctum Concilium” sobre la Sagrada Liturgia, para adentrarnos en la comprensión y el espíritu del Año Litúrgico, a fin de vivir con la Iglesia y desde nuestro ministerio musical sus tiempos fuertes. Este próximo congreso lo dedicaremos a profundizar en el espíritu de la “Semana Santa”.

Tendremos, como en los congresos anteriores, diversos talleres: dirección coral, canto gregoriano, órgano, salmodia y edición de partituras. Tendremos también laudes solemnes, conferencias, algunos conciertos, momentos de intercambio y convivencia, y las Celebraciones Eucarísticas.

El congreso da inicio con la comida del lunes 24 de febrero a las 2:00 de la tarde y concluye el jueves 7 por la noche. El viernes 8 está organizado un paseo, para concluir con la comida a las 2:00 p.m.

Los conferencista para este congreso, serán Obispos Mexicanos.

Haremos también un espacio para que la Federación Mexicana de Pueri Cantores, vinculada a la Federación Internacional, se presente oficialmente a ustedes.
