Gaudete Sunday
  • What is everybody using for Advent 3? I need a good chant that is easy enough to learn in one rehearsal. Thanks.

Where in the mass are you using this chant? I am using the Advent Communion Chants by Richard J. Clark, which he so graciously offered to us on the forum not long ago. They are really good, and the response to them from the congregation is overwhelmingly positive. Did I mention that they are really easy to learn and sing?

Rotate caeli (if you sing the verses)

"Rotate caeli"? Has "Rorate caeli", the Introit for Advent IV, been rotated to Advent III????

There is a pentential chant with the same beginning and several verses; just look at the Laudes Festivae CMAA has here on its website, it is in the section called Cantuarium or something like that.

  • I am using Rorate caeli for Advent IV, and to answer Charles' comment, most probably offertory. I used Veni Emmanuel for Advent I and don't want to repeat it. I wanted something more "rejoicing" for Gaudete. Thanks for your help.

What can be more rejoice than... Rejoice, Rejoice, Emmanuel sounds like a no brainer to me.

We did Conditor Alme Siderum last week and I think it could be used for Advent III. It has a simple and repetitive melody. You could also do the English version, Creator of the Stars of Night - easily learned in one rehearsal.
