Preces- Divine Office
Preces are IMO the very last thing in the Divine Office that should be solemnized / musically elaborated. Also historically the office of the Holy Week is no high season of elaboration and embellishments. Rather the opposite.

It depends on what exactly you find unattractive. Are we talking just the pdf example attached above? That one already has quite some aesthetic improvements applied. The default LilyPond output without any additional styling is much worse.
