Anglican Use/Anglican Ordinariate Resources
  • I've recently downloaded the Sarum Psalter from this website and I would like to know if this is permitted as an alternative to the Revised Grail Psalter, if not in the Latin Rite but for the Anglican Use/Anglican Ordinariate liturgies.
  • Sarum Psalter? Is this in Latin or an English translation?

The liturgical psalter of the Ordinariate is the Coverdale translation from the BCP.

The Anglican Use parishes (who have not joined the Ordinariate, e.g., Our Lady of the Atonement in San Antonio) continue to use the Book of Divine Worship which contains both the Coverdale and a modern translation, both of which are in the 1979 American BCP.

This certainly 'baptises' the Coverdale and makes it Catholic, but not licit for use, I shouldn't think, liturgically, in the ordinary Roman rite - except in hymns and anthems and such extra-liturgical adornments.

What is the provenance of your Sarum Psalter?

It's by G.H. Palmer from 1916, and it's here. Jeffrey posted about it on Chant Cafe in 2011.

  • This is the Coverdale translation.
  • So it's okay for Ordinariate use?
  • Yes.
For the Ordinariate anything else would definitely be inappropriate.
