Would anyone have a Finale .mus file of the Litany of the Saints that you could share? I need to adapt it for an upcoming ordination (with particular saints and petitions). At the last ordination I attended, the cantor was evidently trying to do this off-the-cuff (I think he was making it up from the unpointed worship aid and his fuzzy memory of the Easter Vigil, without looking at it ahead of time), and it was very awkward, so I would like to typeset the whole thing. Thanks in advance.
It's not that Finale files are forbidden; they've never been supported in the file-upload feature of this forum. Moreover, they can't be displayed in a browser, but require some proprietary software.
I will look into the possible use of the MusicXML file format for exchanging scores. That would give users more of a choice about software for reading the files.
MusicXML would be a good choice, Richard, because many of the major engraving programs are able to import and export MusicXML files. The only downside is that MusicXML files tend to be vastly larger than their Finale .mus and Sibelius .sib counterparts (and probably so for other proprietary music engraving file formats).
You probably know this, but there are some javascript (and, i think, php) libraries that can render MusicXML and/or Lilypond code directly into music images in-browser.
