Music for the blessing of a new reredos and crucifix

Our pastor has renovated our sanctuary. He has resurfaced the reredos and replaced the crucifix. He has also tiled the sanctuary. The transformation is remarkable. The cardinal is coming to bless it. Does anyone have suggestions for music? I don't know the date yet, but I want to be prepared. Many thanks.

Maybe he didn't want the redos to surface.

How about a fantasia on re-re-do?

    But seriously,

Since the reredos stands in relation to the altar(s) [of sacrifice and of repose], a text related to the dedication of an altar might not be out of place.
e.g. chant see GR 397 ff or Sanctificavit Moyses (24th Sun in OT; GR or SEP)

Any setting of Psalm 84, i.e.

O how amiable are thy dwellings, Thou Lord of hosts.
My soul hath desired long to enter into the courts of the Lord.
My heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God.

Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house
And the swallow a nest where she may lay her young.
Even thy altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.
    Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house;
They will be alway praising Thee.

Vaughan Williams has an "O how amiable" that your choir might pull off.

Throw in the Bruckner Locus Iste in a pinch.

    This. Perfect.
  • The Book of Blessings lists Nos autem gloriari with ps. 97 for the procession and Crucem tuam with ps. 66 (or Per signum Crucis) for the incensation for the Blessing of a New Cross for public Veneration.

Matthew, where can we buy your new piece? I'm presuming it's not downloadable for free.

Send me a cheque for $300 and I'll send you an autographed hardcopy.

And I'll throw in Toccata on re-re-re and Alegretto on re-re-re.

Commission a new work, words of your choice, composer of your choice. Composers are in a sad decade, very little support lately.
